Biography of The GazettE

the GazettE

In March 2002, Ruki, Uruha, Aoi, Reita and Yuune formed a band under the name Gazette.[2] Originally signed to Matina, they released their first single, "Wakaremichi", and a video release in April. By September they had released two more singles and another video, headlining a show for the first time in October.

Ruki, Reita and Uruha were known for their previous work Kar + te = zyAnose. At this time Ruki was not as drummer and vocalist. The band pre-Gazette (Ma'die Kuss) [2000 ~ 2002], where a vocalist Ruki step, they decided to rename and integrate 2 new members to the exclusion of support. One member specifically Yune, I talked about Aoi, Uruha, and after talking with him, asked him to join the band. Aoi was a lifelong friend of Yune This is what would Gazette in February 2002. In March they do their first tour of Japan and in April of this year get their first single "Wakaremichi" along with 2 pv's, between the months of August and in September launched a new singles Vhs, this time stamp as was Martin. Yune before they officially leave the band members were already in search of finding a replacement drummer rookie. Unfortunately, as a REIT Shoxx interview with the "amateur" and decided to not take off a week of Gazette. Upon hearing this Kai (ex. Mareydi † I thought '). seized by phone and spoke to them, accepting them immediately.

In early 2003, Yune decided to leave the band, and he was replaced by Kai. Shortly after, they signed with the PS Company label, and in May released their first EP, Cockayne Soup. They started their first tour, with the band Hanamuke, and along with the tour, the bands collaborated on two songs. A second tour followed with the band Vidoll, and the bands were featured together on the November issue of Cure, a magazine focusing on Visual Kei bands.[3]
In early December they played a co-headlining show with Deadman. On December 28 they performed at Fool's Mate magazine's Beauti-fool's Fest which was later released on DVD.

On January 16, 2004 they recorded a solo performance at the Shibuya-AX, which was released on DVD as Tokyo saihan ~Judgement Day~.[2] On March 30, 2004 they released their Madara mini-album, which reached #2 on the Oricon Indie Charts. Madara was followed in May by a companion DVD, which included six music videos and an in-the-studio documentary. The same month, Gazette was featured in Shoxx magazine's Expect Rush III, a catalogue of independent Visual Kei artists.[4] A second live DVD, Heisei Banka, was released in August.[2] During September and October they toured with fellow PS Company bands Kra and BIS. Their debut album, Disorder, was released in October, and made it to the top 5 of the indies Oricon Daily Charts.

The band spent the remainder of 2004 and 2005 touring extensively, releasing Gama (another mini album) in August.

In 2005 the band released their first major label single, Cassis, in December.[5]

Starting 2006 with a name change—from Japanese characters to a romanized script—they released Nil, their second full-length album, on February 8, 2006,[2] and embarked on another Japanese tour, ending at the venue Nippon Budokan.[6] That July, The Gazette performed at the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Germany, their first show outside of Asia. The concerts were arranged in conjunction with the AnimagiC anime and manga convention.[7]

Three more singles were released followed by another studio album, Stacked Rubbish on July 4, 2007. It reached #2 on the Oricon charts within a day from the release. The album debut was followed by a promotional tour from July through September. In October, The Gazette started their first European tour stopping England, Finland, France, and Germany.

A single called "Guren" was released on February 13, 2008, which landed a #1 spot on the Oricon Charts, and it was announced that a new DVD would be released in August, and a new single Leech in Autumn 2008 [8], which also landed a #1 spot on the Oricon daily charts.[9]

The Gazette accomplished a one man tour through all of October called "From the Distorted City", referencing to the song "Distorted Daytime" in their single "Leech". It portrays Tokyo as a Distorted City, in terms of the society and political crisis sweeping over Japan in current days. "From the Distorted City" illustrates 'A Message from the Distorted City of Tokyo'.

On November 15, 2008, the GazettE hosted their first Secret Live in Shinjuku Station. Originally, around 250 people were to be anticipated, but instead, over 7000 came to the live, the most in history. Due to the amount of people on the streets, the police were forced to shut it down after two songs. [9][10] On 3rd January 2009, the GazettE performed along side their fellow bands signed to the PS company label to celebrate the record labels 10th anniversary where they announce that on March 25, 2009, they will release a new single called "Distress and Coma". In addition to their new single the band have announced that they will be releasing a new album "DIM" on July 15th.

On October 7, 2009, they released their new single called "Before I Decay". It'll be the soundtrack for the Japanese version of "Fast and Furious 4".

The band then played at V-ROCK FESTIVAL'09 on October 25, 2009 with other Visual Kei bands. They were featured on the main website, and performed the finale of the whole festival[14], unfortunately their performance was not broadcast live on the internet. Soon they will have another one-man Christmas live on December 24, 2009 called "A HYMN OF THE CRUCIFIXION".

History

Formation

In February of 1991, bassist Tetsuya Ogawa (tetsu), later band leader, recruited vocalist hyde (his real name has never been disclosed officially, however, fans have rumoured it to be Hideto Takarai) along with guitarist hiro and drummer pero, and formed a band under the name of L'Arc~en~Ciel, inspired by a French movie of the same name. After a year of gaining notoriety in their hometown of Osaka, hiro left the band on June 12, 1992. pero soon followed on December 30 of the same year, supposedly to join up with his friend hiro again. To replace the two, tetsu convinced his friend Ken Kitamura (ken) to quit his university studies in architectural design and join the band as the guitarist. Later, a new drummer, Yasunori Sakurazawa, was recruited after tetsu saw him perform in a few shows.

Debut album and subsequent albums

On April 1, 1993, the band released their debut album DUNE under the indie label Danger Crue. The album was met with plenty of success and rose to number one on the Oricon indies charts, catching the attention of some major labels. In 1994, L'Arc~en~Ciel signed on with Sony's Ki/oon division, releasing their second album, Tierra (Spanish for "Earth") that same year. heavenly followed in 1995, and True, their first million seller, was released in 1996.

Sakura's arrest

Despite their blistering climb to superstardom, the band would face yet another loss that threatened its demise. In early 1997, drummer sakura was arrested for heroin possession, and officially quit the band on October 4, 1997. This proved to be the lowest point in the band's history. When news of sakura's arrest became public, there was an immediate decline in their popularity. CDs were being removed from the shelves and any of their songs that were used as theme songs were quickly replaced such as the Fourth Avenue Cafe for Rurouni Kenshin which was immediately replaced with former theme Heart of Sword after only 6 episodes of running time. There was no evidence of the band's existence, and their next single the Fourth Avenue Cafe was postponed. Many believe that the whole incident was blown tremendously out of proportion.

Break and comeback

The next few months were an extremely uncertain time, with doubts as to whether the band would recover. They continued to be featured in magazines, but only as a trio. They created their own cover band, "The Zombies", and poked fun at their own songs. They also covered artists such as Marilyn Manson and Nirvana. The return from the break was marked by the appropriately named Reincarnation 97 Live in Tokyo Dome, with their new drummer, yukihiro (former drummer with ZI:KILL and DIE IN CRIES). The first concert had an attendance of 56,000, which sold out in a still-standing Tokyo Dome record of four minutes. They released HEART, in 1998, which, like their second major album "heavenly" is seen as a transitional: moving away from the bad memories of the past, but also maintaining their originality and success.
In 1997, 「虹」 (Niji — Rainbow), the first single since sakura's departure, was released with yukihiro listed as a supporting member. Not long after the release of the single, yukihiro was signed on as the official drummer for L'Arc~en~Ciel and the band was finally whole again.

1999–2000 projects

L'Arc~en~Ciel released three more albums of new material during the next few years. ark and ray were released simultaneously on July 1, 1999, and became the first Japanese albums to be released simultaneously in many other Asian countries. Both topped the Oricon music charts, with ark occupying number one and ray at number two. The release of ark and ray marked the high point of the band's career, with each selling over two million copies. REAL followed in 2000, which was the last CD of new material for some time, although many more compilation and remix albums would follow. L'Arc~en~Ciel's last new song before their hiatus, "Spirit dreams inside", was the closing theme song to the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Solo projects

After "Spirit dreams inside", the band went on a hiatus as the members began working on various solo projects. hyde released two solo albums (Roentgen and 666 as HYDE) and starred in the movie Moon Child with the popular Japanese soloist Gackt. hyde also played the part of Adam in the movie Kagen no Tsuki, based on the manga by the same title. Ken founded Sons of All Pussys with L'Arc~en~Ciel's former drummer sakura. tetsu started TETSU69 and yukihiro sang with Acid Android. The popular compilation, Clicked Singles Best 13 was released in 2001, with twelve favorites chosen by fans online and an additional thirteenth song, "Anemone", the band's only new material during this span of years. The members' various solo projects fueled speculation that L'Arc~en~Ciel was going to disband.

Second comeback

In June 2003, L'Arc~en~Ciel surprised the world with a series of seven concerts in Tokyo called the "Shibuya Seven Days", during which they announced a new album for release the following year. The band came out with "READY STEADY GO" in February 2004, its first single in more than three years. It topped Oricon charts and was used as an opening for popular anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist. The single was followed by another chart-topper, "瞳の住人" ("Hitomi no Juunin"), in early March. Finally, the long-awaited new album, SMILE, was released on March 31. Shortly afterwards, on June 2, 2004, the single 自由への招待 ("Jiyuu e no Shoutai") introduced "P'UNK~EN~CIEL" ,a partial change (much like the former gag, D'ARK~EN~CIEL), for the first time on CD with "milky way". In the past, the band also played a P'unk version of "Round and Round" live.

U.S concert debut

On July 31, 2004, L'Arc~en~Ciel made their North American concert debut at anime convention Otakon, held annually in Baltimore, Maryland. Approximately 12,000 people attended the concert, which was held at an outside venue for the first time in Otakon's musical guest history, at 1st Mariner Arena located near the Baltimore Convention Center where the convention is held.

On May 31, 2005, Tofu Records, Sony Music Japan's U.S. label, released the much-anticipated DVD of the Otakon 2004 concert "Live in U.S.A"

AWAKE, 2005 release

In 2005, the band released various singles, including "Killing Me" , "New World", and "Jojoushi". These were later featured on their latest album, AWAKE, which was released on June 22 with twelve tracks, including "LOST HEAVEN", the closing theme for Fullmetal Alchemist movie. The band's latest single, "Link", released on July 20, 2005, was also featured in the movie as the opening theme, but has not appeared on an album yet.

In August of 2005, the band went on their AWAKE tour, which was limited to Japan. The tour featured displays of anti-war sentiment, reflecting similar lyrics of the songs of the album. A particularly memorable moment was the unfurling of a giant white flag during NEO UNIVERSE. The flag was decorated with the universal symbol for peace. Other memorable moments included a suspended woman and acrobatics during the performance of Ophelia.

Hyde's costuming for the concerts raised controversy among fans, and proved to be much removed from L'Arc~en~Ciel's earlier visual kei days. The neo-Nazi uniform and the papal robes during the performance of REVELATION were blatant social commentaries not seen before in the band's concerts. One theory is that the band was commenting on the election of German Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) to the head of the Roman Catholic church amid inquiries into his involvement with Nazi Germany and the Hitler Youth.

An opposing theory, supported by hyde's new solo album, FAITH, points to his increased interest in religion and states that his shredding and distribution of the peace flag in papal attire symbolizes the spreading of peace by Catholicism; however, the flag itself was black and proves a significant contrast to the white flag, later unfurled during NEO UNIVERSE. Thus, the true meaning behind the military uniform and even more perplexing papal robes remains a mystery, but it seems most likely that the new socially-aware face of Laruku is being spear-headed by hyde.

The Japanese AWAKE tour was followed by the "ASIA LIVE 2005" tour, with performances in Korea (Seoul) and China (Shanghai), closing with concerts in Japan. Japan's two concerts took place at the famed Tokyo Dome.

Late 2005 and 2006

Following the AWAKE and ASIALIVE tours, L'Arc~en~Ciel's members turned their attentions back to their solo projects. tetsu began recording with a new band Creature Creature. yukihiro rejoined acid android, which released their newest single "Let's Dance" on 2006/04/05. acid android joins MUCC, another Japanese rock band, to perform two concerts in China (Shanghai) in April of 2006.

HYDE composed the music for "Glamorous Sky", theme song to the much anticipated, manga-adapted film, NANA which stars Mika Nakashima, a j-pop singer (released 2005/08/31), a landmark step for the vocalist, being the first time that he has composed music for another artist. His most recent solo singles are "COUNTDOWN", the ending song for the Japanese release of American movie Stealth (released 2005/10/05), and "SEASON'S CALL", the opening song of new hit anime Blood+ (released 2006/02/22). Both singles topped at #1 on the Oricon chart. HYDE's next solo album "FAITH" was released in Japan 2006/04/26 accompanied by a five month tour throughout Japan between April and August, 2006. After signing on with Tofu Records, four small concerts were scheduled in San Francisco and Anaheim, California in the United States. HYDE will make his U.S. debut in July of 2006, the first of L'Arc~en~Ciel's solo projects to extend internationally.

On November 25th & 26th, 2006, L'Arc~en~Ciel played 2 shows at the Tokyo Dome to celebrate their 15th Anniversary. A poll was created on the official website during the weeks up to the concert to allow fans to pick which songs they would like to hear at the event.

2007-2008

In 2007, L'arc~en~Ciel had done an opening to the anime Seirei no Moribito, Shine. They released 4 new singles, SEVENTH HEAVEN (May 30th), My Heart Draws A Dream (August 29th) which was used for a Subaru Commercial, Daybreak's Bell (October 10th) which was used for Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Hurry Xmas (November 14th). The band's album, KISS, came out on November 21st, and it included these 4 singles, however, it did not include Shine.

In 2008, the band released DRINK IT DOWN (April 2nd) which was used for Devil May Cry 4, and the single NEXUS 4 / SHINE is to be released on August 27th. NEXUS 4 was used for another SUBARU commercial. L'arc~en~Ciel will be going on another hiatus till 2011, when they will celebrate their 20th anniversary. The members will be working on their solo projects, which includes the new duo, VAMPS, which consists of hyde and KAZ (Oblivion Dust), who was also the guitarist on tetsu's solo project in 2001.

2009-2010
On December 1, 2009, leader tetsu changed his name to "tetsuya" (and TETSUYA for his solo projects). They also announced the release of a new single: "BLESS" (Jan 27th release date) which would be set as the theme song for NHK's coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010.
L'Arc~en~Ciel (along with two other groups/singers) to do Coca-Cola's new Pepsi commercial in ten years. The three groups will be in a Coke bottle singing their designated song. L'Arc~en~Ciel is singing "I Love Rock N' Roll"

About High and Mighty Color

Formation and Anti-Nobunaga

The band started with the members MEG and SASSY working in a Metallica cover band. The two founding members played in this band for two years before they decided that they wanted to go further with their talents than just cover songs. After leaving the band, Sassy offered mACKAz the opportunity to join, he accepted and invited long time friend Kazuto to join the band as well. Oddly, the vocalist was the final member to join the original band. MEG sat in on a school performance one day and one voice stood out to him. MEG offered Yuusuke the chance to join the band; he initially rejected this due to wanting to be a solo singer, but joined after MEG reportedly asked him to join every day for nearly four months. The band, known as Anti-Nobunaga at this time, played mainly in small coffee shops and art theaters for about a year. They had relative success during this period and eventually wanted to reach a larger market than just the local market. SASSY, the band leader, sent demo tapes to every major Japanese label, all of whom rejected the band. It was not until a small Japanese label signed the band that they found their first big break. The band was now playing areas further from their local Okinawa until they landed a spot at the yearly music festival of Okinawa.

Maakii and the Music Festival

During the summer of 2003, at a yearly music festival in Okinawa, the band's label hyped their spot and eventually they ended up playing for a sold out crowd. Due to this festival being a "per show" ticket selling one, it meant that Anti-Nobunaga was the only band to play for a sell out crowd. A scout for a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan was in the crowd and offered the band the chance to produce their own album. The band then went hard to work on their first album and after three months released "Okinawa 2003". At another festival known as the "Music Picnic Festival", vocalist Maakii also grabbed the attention of the same scout that found Anti-Nobunaga. The scout felt that both projects on their own were not remarkable, but combined, the band could be something never before seen on the Japanese music scene. Maakii first rejected the offer due to wanting to go to Canada to study English and pursue a solo career. It was in fact Yuusuke, the band's other vocalist, that convinced her to join the band. With the addition of Maakii the band took on a new name, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR (also called HiKara, HaMC, and Handmc). After six months of perfecting their craft, the band was moved up from SMJ's minor label to their major label, in league with bands such as Orange Range. They spent much of 2004 writing and recording, in late 2004 they released their first single, "Over" which was only sold through Tower Record stores. It sold out in the time frame of a month and became immensely scarce, thus it was re-released the next year. The album sat at number one spot of the Indy Oricon charts for an entire month.

2005

During 2005, the band released their first official singled, titled "PRIDE", it was originally to be attached to a Japanese football event being held at the same time but was picked up for something else. A Sunrise music partner was looking for a song to use for Gundam SEED Destiny and PRIDE was chosen to be that song. At the time, Gundam SEED Destiny was the number one rated anime in Japan, and being attached to this helped PRIDE's sales immensely. With a final sell count of 223,208 copies, PRIDE remains the band's best selling single since the official start of their public career.

Over the next year, the band went on a media blitz, performing for shows such as Music Fighter, Music Station and HEY HEY HEY at various times. During August, the band released "Days", their 4th single and currently their lowest selling single, selling only 7,679 copies and not breaking the top 20 mark on the Oricon charts. Despite this setback, the band was still honored with the Japanese Record Grand Prix's Rookie of the Year award and Maakii's grandmother who had just passed away was given a tribute just before their performance.

2006

In April 2006, the band released their second album after only releasing two singles for the album. The album sold less copies than their original album, but it stayed on the Oricon charts longer and managed to gain a higher peak position than their first album. The band's first single of the year was "Ichirin no Hana" (一輪の花, One Lone Flower) and was used as the third opening to the anime Bleach. This was the first and currently only single to break the top five mark on the Oricon charts since their debut with "PRIDE". They also played their first American concert at an anime convention on April 28th.

The band then went on a large scale Japanese tour. They played 65 venues over the course of the next five months. They released their 7th single, "DIVE into YOURSELF", in August. The song was used as the opening song for the video game Sengoku BASARA II. This was the band's second lowest selling single and was also their lowest ranking single among the Oricon charts, only managing to reach the 24th spot on the weekly charts. Their 8th single "Enrai~Tooku ni Aru Akari" was released on October 25th and entered the charts 12 spots higher than "DIVE into YOURSELF" at the 12th spot.

2007

Maakii will be making her acting debut in December 2006 and the band will be doing the theme song for the movie "Anata wo Wasurenai". Tadoritsuku Basho/Okizarisu will be their 9th single, it will be their first single for 2007 and it will also be a double A-Side single.

2008

The band began their 4th volume in their LIVE BEE LOUD tour on March 17, 2008 at the famous Club Quattro of Japan. [13] They then went on to preform at 13 other venues across the country with the final venue being their hometown of Okinawa. Their next single will be a cover of T.M. Revolution's early single, Hot Limit. On July 1st, 2008, it was announced that Maki was married to DREAMS COME TRUE singer Masato Nakamura on June 22nd, 2008 and would be leaving the band by the end of 2008. In her parting message, Maki thanked her fellow band members and all of their fans for supporting her and the group for such a long time. No plans to add another member have been made yet, but the band is expected to continue on without Maki. [14] A special event is planned for Maki's graduation from the band as well as at least one more single before she leaves the band. It was also announced that the band will begin searching for a new vocalist early 2009.

The band was transferred to Spice Records on January 1st, 2009, Spice Records is an Okinawa based studio that maintained minor rights to the band while under SME. The first live DVD from the band was released on January 25 and reached the 11th spot on the Oricon weekly DVD charts, reaching a peak of 9th on the daily charts. After the departure of Mākii the band began auditions for a replacement vocalist, the auditions were open to women for a month before call backs and performances were done. On February 9, 2009, the band announced that a replacement vocalist was found, whose information would soon be added to their website after an extensive overhaul. [18] The band plans to begin working on a summer single and live tour to promote the new vocalist in May. [19]

Speaking of the reason for the break up, band members cited "musical differences" and "future opportunities". The last single "Re:ache" will contain three new songs, with four songs in total, the fourth being a live rendition of "Red". The single will be a CD+DVD bundle that will come with the PVs for "Re:ache" and "Good Bye", as well as live recordings of their American concert from Sakura-Con 2010.

The band is relatively low key with their personal information, releasing only minuscule amounts of information over the years. Maakii's real name is Masaki Itsushima, this was discovered as her name on the Japanese fan forums for the band. She has since confirmed that it is her real name. Kazuto's real name is Kazuto Kanzu, mACKAz's real name has been discovered to be Masakatsu Minei, Yuusuke's real name is Yuusuke Yushishiro, band mate MEG also shares the same first name as Yuusuke with a slight variation in spelling. Biography of Yui Aragaki

Yui Aragaki
Real nameAragaki Yui
Genderfemale
Birthday11 June, 1988

Aragaki Yui is a Japanese gravure idol, model, actress, singer and former U-15 idol.Aragaki was very shy as a child. Until now she is shy around strangers, which is uncommon for most celebrities who appear on-screen as outgoing personalities. She and then-popular U-15 idol Ishida Miku belonged to the same agency. They even lived in the same dormitory while debuting in Tokyo. After seeing an audition notice for the junior fashion magazine nicola, Aragaki applied for and won the Grand Prix award for the audition. After that, she became a model for the said magazine or popularly called as a nicomo. In 2004 she put her modeling in nicola on hold to expand her current modeling career into gravure, appearing on variety shows, and acting.Came 2005, she officially graduated from the magazine. The same year, she was in the TBS drama Dragon Zakura. This began her entrance into the acting world and she has gone on to appear in other shows since. Even though she has graduated from nicola, she still appears in the magazine occasionally.Currently, Aragaki holds the record for most covers of nicola at 15 covers. She constantly appears in TV commercials every now and then, her Pocky commercials being the most popular ones.Just recently, Aragaki made her singing debut. The ballad called Memories , the theme song for her first lead role movie, Koisuru Madori, marked the beginning of her career as a singer. She will also release a song called "Heavenly Days" for the movie "Koizora". It is confirmed that Aragaki will be releasing an album on December 5th, 2007 and will perform a debut performance in Budoukan. If this event pushes through, she would be the third song artist to debut in the said location. Aragaki's situation where an album is to be released before a single is very rare to female idols like her.Besides modeling, acting and singing, Aragaki occasionally hosts a segment in the radio show, SCHOOL OF LOCKS!. GIRLS LOCKS!, the segment where certain young female idols switch slots in hosting, is also hosted by the likes of Maki Horikita, Nana Eikura and Erika TodaShe debuted as a singer after releasing her debut album "Sora" on December 5, 2007. The album features two songs, "Memories" and "heavenly days", which she sang as theme songs for movies she starred in. She had her first live concert taken place at Nippon Budoukan on December 22, 2007. She will not participate in singing at the 58th Annual Kōhaku Uta Gassen, but she will attend as a guest judge along with actress Aoi Miyazaki and 9 people who took an active part in 2007

Biography of Miyavi

Miyavi (雅-miyavi-), born September 14, 1981 in Hyogo, Japan, is a Japanese solo Japanese rock artist and former guitarist (under the name Miyabi (雅, Miyabi)) for the visual kei indies band Dué le quartz, which disbanded in 2002. In the same year, Miyabi announced that he was going solo, changed his name to Miyavi, and released his debut album "【雅楽】-gagaku-" He soon signed a contract with PS Company along with other artists such as Alice Nine, Kagrra,, Gazette, and Kra.

In October 2004, Miyavi released his first major single "ROCK no gyakushuu -SUPERSTAR no jouken (ロックの逆襲-スーパースターの条件-, ROCK no gyakushuu -SUPERSTAR no jouken?)" (under Universal Records Japan) and began to credit himself in the songwriting credits in his liner notes as "MYV". His first major album, "【雅-miyavizm-主義】", was released in June 2005.
On Feb. 16th, 2009, it was announced on his official site that Miyavi and PS Company would be parting ways on April 5th at the Hibiya Yagai Dai Ongakdou after
a 10 year relationship.
Early Life
Miyavi was born in Nisikujo, Japan. His mother is Japanese and his father is a second generation Zainichi Korean whose parents immigrated to Japan from the Korean island of Jeju. His family's Korean surname was Lee(李) before changing it after moving to Japan. Miyavi has stated that though he has never been to Jeju he would like to do so when he has the opportunity. Although Miyavi does not speak Korean he has expressed interest in learning the language sometime in the future. Miyavi's parents divorced when he was young. Soon after he moved with his mother to Hyogo to live near his maternal grandparents, where he grew up. As a child, Miyavi was a good student and enjoyed playing soccer. Miyavi started playing the guitar and writing music at a young age after a soccer injury left him unable to play.
Career
In 1999, at the age of 18, Miyavi joined the visual kei band, Dué le quartz. The band broke up in September of 2002, and soon after Miyavi released his first solo album 【雅楽】-gagaku- under the indie label PS Company. Miyavi's significant change in music and visual styles since leaving Dué le quartz caused many of his original audience to disperse, but attracted a new audience that he did not originally have. Since embarking on his solo career Miyavi has enjoyed great success not only in Japan but around the world as well. Following his signing with Universal Records Japan in late 2004, he changed his name to "MYV", an apparent shortening of "Miyavi", although magazines and his website still refer to him as "Miyavi" presently.
In addition to his musical career, Miyavi also starred as himself in the 2004 film "Oresama (おれさま, Oresama)" and is regularly featured in various J-Rock magazines such as Fools Mate, Arena 37c, and Shoxx magazine. In the past he has modeled in the Gothic & Lolita Bible and for various brands such as the clothing line Fotus.
In 2004 Miyavi was scheduled to put on a concert at Pacific Media Expo but had to cancel last minute due to staff issues, and was replaced by the Japanese band Psycho le Cému.
Personal Life
On March 14, 2009, Miyavi married pop singer Melody. He announced their marriage on April 5, 2009.
On July 29, 2009, Melody gave birth to a daughter Lovelie Miyavi Ishihara (石原 愛理 雅 Ishihara Airi Miyavi?). The characters used to write the name Lovelie mean "The reason of Love".
On July 4, 2010, just three weeks and four days before Lovelie's first birthday, Miyavi announced on his Myspace blog that he and Melody were expecting their second child.
On October 21, 2010 JST, Miyavi announced on twitter his second daughter Jewelie Aoi Ishihara was born.
